Blue Mist Flower
Conoclinium coelestinum
Also known as Wild Ageratum, Mistflower is native to the east and southeastern United States. In northern areas, Mistlfower can be late to emerge in the spring – as late as June, in partial shade. Covered with fuzzy tufts of blue-violet flowers for at least five weeks from late summer until frost. Mistflower spreads to form a dense ground cover, or large patch, in partially shaded settings with moist, well-drained soils. It also does well in full sun, given adequate moisture.

Ohio Spiderwort
Tradescantia ohiensis
Can be found growing on the south side of road ditches and in medium to dry prairies and meadows. It's also a lovely addition to any garden and quite easy to grow. Its unusual foliage and tendency to bloom in the morning sun and close for mid-day heat make this an attractive addition wherever it is found. Spiderwort is one of the first showy prairie flowers to bloom, starting as early as late May.

The magnificent blooms of New England Aster highlight the late season landscape with rich colors ranging from deep violet to lavender-pink, with yellow-orange centers. It is a larval host for the Pearl Crescent, the Gorgone Checkerspot butterfly, and the Northern Flower moth. A native perennial which occurs in moist prairies, meadows, thickets, low valleys, and stream banks.

Lobelia siphilitica
Forms a flower spike covered in violet-blue flowers from late summer to early fall. In its native range, Great Blue Lobelia can be found in wet prairies, soggy meadows, pond and creek edges, marshland borders, and other moist areas. Plants prosper in filtered shade with moist soils or in wetter sunny sites.
