What We Are Looking For:

Production
Production workers are the backbone of the garden center. They are the caretakers of our crops before they hit the retail floor. They are responsible for transplanting, potting, tagging and watering. Production workers help support the retail area in stocking and ensuring that plants stay healthy and beautiful.
Responsibilities:
- Transplant seedlings to flats, baskets, pots or other containers.
- Move plants around as needed.
- Plant up combination pots.
- Ensure proper spacing and consolidation of plants.
- Other duties include watering, weeding, tagging and stocking.
- Keep the production area neat and clean.
- May be called on to help in retail as a Sales Floor Associate:
- Greet and direct guests.
- Provide accurate information and answer customers’ questions (e.g., product features, pricing and care).
- Cross-sell products.
- Provide customer feedback to the Store Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be 18 and older (as of January 1, 2023)
- Honest, reliable, energetic, hardworking, punctual and well-groomed.
- Flexibility to work various shifts. Production is usually scheduled Monday - Friday: 8 am - 5 pm, but some weekends may be required in April and May. Prior commitments, such as school, may be worked into your schedule.

Cashier:
Cashiers are some of our most important customer service representatives. They are often both the first and last impression of our business. It is the responsibility of the cashier to greet, efficiently determine the needs of each customer or phone call and connect them with the appropriate person. At the register, prompt, accurate and friendly service is expected. Customers should leave feeling that they have had a positive experience. In between customers, cashiers are responsible for maintaining the appearance of the interior of the garden center based on brand standards.
Responsibilities Include:
- Greet customers when entering and thank them as they leave the store.
- Manage transactions with customers using cash registers.
- Scan goods and ensure pricing is accurate.
- Collect payments whether in cash or credit.
- Issue receipts, refunds or change.
- Bag or box purchased plants and merchandise.
- Meet customer needs; make sure they feel welcomed and appreciated. Help answer any gardening questions they may have (or direct them to another staff member to answer).
- Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas.
- Keep the sales area neat and clean. This includes weeding, sweeping and dusting (depending on the area).
- Plant care duties in all departments include watering, weeding, tagging, stocking, moving, trimming, planting and potting.
- Assist in the unloading of deliveries.
- Every department pitches in and helps other departments when needed.

Sales Floor Associate:
The greenhouse and nursery area is home to dynamic, seasonally changing colors, reflected in our visual displays. Sales staff are responsible for helping customers select the right plant for the customer’s site and providing necessary care information to make the customer’s gardening experience successful. They are available to help customers troubleshoot when problems arise with their plants and address concerns while educating them on proper remedies. Sales Floor team members ensure plants are kept in mint condition and maintain the visual appeal of the areas.

Greeter:
The greeter is the smile of our garden center. They are often both the first and last impression of our business. It is the responsibility of the Greeter to greet each customer as they enter the building, advise them of current specials, give directions and connect them with the appropriate departments for questions. In between customers, the Greeter is responsible for maintaining the appearance of the entrance to the garden center based on brand standards and rounding up carts.
Responsibilities Include:
- Greet customers when entering and thank them as they leave the store.
- Pass out flyers.
- Give directions to different departments when asked.
- Help answer any gardening questions they may have (or direct them to another staff member to answer).
- Keep the entrance area neat and clean. This includes weeding, sweeping and dusting.
- Round up carts between guests and clean them off when needed.

Loader:
Loader personnel are an important part of our customer service team. They are the last friendly face customers see as their items are loaded into their vehicles. When not loading, they assist in the nursery area and provide critical support to nursery leaders. They work daily to keep the nursery area organized, clean and attractive.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assists loading purchased trees, shrubs, and other hard goods into guests' cars.
- Assists in the unloading of deliveries.
- Plant care duties including watering, weeding, tagging, stocking, and occasionally trimming, planting and potting up.
- Assist fellow associates as needed throughout the store.

Office:
The office staff are the hub of the store with strong communication skills. They are the first contact guests have before coming to Wilson’s via phone and email correspondence. They handle a variety of activities, including filing, sign making, preparing deposits and wholesale transactions. Office staff also periodically fill in for cashiers. This position requires someone customer-oriented that can multitask with day-to-day office operations with a smile.

5) How old do you need to be to work here?
You must be 16 (as of January 1, 2023) or older to work here. Sorry, there are no exceptions. For Production and Office positions, you must be 18 and over (as of January 1, 2023).
6) Is this a year-round job?
No, it is seasonal. Wilson’s is currently hiring for Seasonal spring positions (Estimate March - June). We start new hires throughout March and early April. We lay off people starting from the end of May through mid-June. Please do not fill out an application if you cannot start in March or Early April.
- Production workers usually work Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm and some weekends.
- Salespeople need to be available on weekends and able to work until 7 pm in May. Let us know what hours you can work.
- Production workers will start the season earlier than retail, but retail continues through the season later.
- The best workers will be considered to stay on later through the season.
7) Do you hire for part-time and full-time hours?
We are looking for part-time (less than 40 hours) and full-time people (40 hrs) to fill the positions.

Yes, if you are hired, we will train you for the job you are performing.
9) What time are you taking applications?
You can pick up an application during business hours at the store office. It is located at the back of the store through the brown doors. We are open Monday - Saturday: 8 am - 5 pm and closed on Sunday. If you want to fill out the application here at the store, please come before 4 pm.
10) Do I need to bring anything with me if I fill out an application at the store?

We expect you to have reliable transportation and childcare arrangements so that we can depend on you to be here at your scheduled times. Many of the jobs involve a team effort and do not work out well if everyone is not in place at the beginning of their shift.
