Tent Caterpillars
Tent caterpillars are the larvae of several different moths and butterflies found throughout the United States and Canada. They multiply rapidly and can defoliate many trees and shrubs in a short amount of time. Although the damage is unsightly, infestations rarely kill the plants.
Treatment And Removal
Trimming:
Trim out branches with the nest. Dispose of in garbage (do not compost).
Spraying:
For large infestations, use Bonide BT Thuricide. Since this is a selective insecticide, it kills tent caterpillars while remaining safe to other wildlife. Apply spray directly to foliage and tent worm nests in the evening or early morning hours while caterpillars are out of the nest.
