Consistent Moisture:
Do not let the container or basket go bone dry. Consistent moisture is the key to success. In hot 90-degree weather, you may need to water twice a day. Use your finger to check a few inches down into the soil to see if it is moist or dry. Avoid watering the foliage. This will help prolong your blooms. Water around the base of the plant until the water comes out of the drainage holes in the bottom. Do not allow your plant to sit in water. This will cause root rot.
Sun Requirements:
Petunias love full sun, but in summer's heat, they like some light shade in the afternoon. They can not survive in full shade all day and will stop blooming if they do not receive enough sunlight.
Fertilizing:
Petunias are heavy feeders. If you notice your petunia turning yellow, it may need some fertilizer. We recommend using Jack's Classic Petunia Feed once a week or every two weeks, depending on the container size. Avoid fertilizing during the hottest part of the day to avoid burning the plant.
Hair cut:
Mid-summer, rejuvenate your petunias with a light haircut (no more than 1/3 of the plant). This will allow them to flush back out for a dazzling display for the rest of the summer.
