Native Plant Or Nativar Meaning
Native Plant - A plant that initially occurs within a region as the result of natural processes rather than human intervention. Native plants have existed since before the time of widespread Euro-American settlement, which occurred approximately 200 years ago.
Nativar - A nativar is a cultivar derived from a straight-species native plant. While some nativars may be natural variants found in the wild before being cultivated, many are developed by plant breeders and would not occur in nature. Nativars are propagated for various reasons, including desirable flower colors or forms, compact size, resistance to insects or diseases, and tolerance to specific environmental conditions. It's important to note that some nativars may produce sterile flowers and seeds.
